About Richard Arfsten

Arfsten Art Montage

Grandma always said, “Richard, you have ants in your pants.” I fidgeted and couldn’t sit still — always had to be busy and hated to get bored. Seventy-some years later I’m still that way —  I have to keep busy — making art and inventing new projects. No one will ever accuse me of being a “couch potato” — I don’t even own a couch!

I am a many-faceted artist, with sculpture being my first love. It is characterized by a variety of styles and subjects with forms ranging from large abstract pieces to traditional figures to one-of-a-kind metal flowers. Steel, stainless steel, aluminum, bronze, and cast iron are the metals I work in, doing all of the fabrication and most of the casting myself.

I am a perpetual student and teacher of art. I’m constantly seeking new processes and love to share my passion with others.
